On September 2, the latest data from Omdia revealed that smartphone shipments in the Latin American market experienced a 12% year-on-year decline in the second quarter of 2026, plummeting to 30.3 million units. The escalating costs of DRAM and NAND were transferred to the retail level, thereby exerting a substantial influence on the demand for entry-level smartphones. While manufacturers and distributors managed to partially mitigate cost pressures in the first quarter by engaging in early stockpiling and utilizing inventory buffers, the effectiveness of these measures diminished in the second quarter, subsequently applying pressure to the demand in the low-end market segment. In contrast, the markets for mid-range, high-end, and flagship devices demonstrated relatively strong performance.
