The Mach power R & D team of Dongfeng Motor, in collaboration with the Wuxi Research Institute of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, successfully completed the ultimate overspeed test of the electric motor rotor on the test bench. The linear velocity on the rotor surface reached 365m/s, surpassing the speed of sound at Mach 1, representing an improvement of approximately 60% compared to 2023. Currently, the team has overcome the core technical challenges of ultra-high-speed electric motor rotors and completed relevant validations, although specific technical details and testing conditions have not yet been disclosed. Mach Power is an independent passenger vehicle power brand launched by Dongfeng in 2021, covering three major technology platforms: fuel, hybrid, and pure electric. Several of its products have won industry awards. Ultra-high-speed electric motors offer advantages such as reduced size and weight, expanded high-efficiency range, and lower power consumption during high-speed cruising. They can also be applied in the field of aircraft. Currently, a cargo eVTOL equipped with this power has completed its maiden flight, and flight engines have also been delivered. It should be noted that the 54,461 rpm achieved in this test represents the ultimate burst speed on the test bench, used to verify design safety boundaries, rather than the rated operating speed of mass-produced electric motors.
