As reported by CNBC, on February 25 (Beijing Time), David Luan, the Chinese executive who leads Amazon's Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) Lab, announced on LinkedIn his decision to leave his post by the end of the week, marking a tenure of less than two years. Luan joined Amazon following the tech giant's acquisition of the startup Adept, where he was a key figure. In December 2024, Amazon appointed him to spearhead its newly established AGI Lab in San Francisco. This lab is dedicated to pioneering long-term research endeavors, notably the creation of practical AI agents. In the previous year, the team under Luan's leadership unveiled Nova Act, an innovative extension of Amazon's Nova model, engineered to rival top-tier AI models like OpenAI's ChatGPT. Luan expressed his commitment to channeling all his energy into enhancing AI systems with novel functionalities. His departure follows Amazon's earlier announcement of a significant reorganization within its AGI division.
