On April 27, 2026, Microsoft and OpenAI unveiled an updated version of their partnership agreement, aiming to refine and optimize their collaborative efforts. Under the terms of the revised agreement, Microsoft's licensing arrangement with OpenAI will transition from an exclusive to a non-exclusive basis. Concurrently, Microsoft will discontinue its practice of paying revenue shares to OpenAI. Nevertheless, OpenAI's obligation to pay revenue shares to Microsoft will persist until 2030. Microsoft will retain its position as OpenAI's principal cloud services provider, with OpenAI products receiving priority for launch on the Azure platform, contingent upon Microsoft's ability and willingness to furnish the requisite technical support. Furthermore, Microsoft will maintain its intellectual property licenses for OpenAI's models and products until 2032 and will actively contribute to OpenAI's expansion as a significant shareholder.
