On April 20, the 2026 China Intellectual Property Protection High-Level Forum disclosed that China is making unremitting efforts to refine its intellectual property protection framework in burgeoning sectors like artificial intelligence (AI) and big data. Presently, 17 provinces and municipalities nationwide have launched pilot initiatives for data intellectual property protection. By the close of 2025, over 100,000 applications for data intellectual property registration had been received, culminating in the issuance of more than 48,000 registration certificates. Concurrently, with a focus on industries such as next-generation information technology and AI, 81 national-level intellectual property protection centers and 50 rapid rights protection centers have been established across the country. These centers offer 'one-stop' expedited pre-examination and rights protection services to innovation entities, streamlining the process and bolstering protection.
