The growing demand for electric vehicles is driving the transformation of Japan's imported car market. According to a report by Nikkei China on the 18th, the latest data from the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA) shows that 238,000 foreign-brand imported cars were newly registered in Japan in the 2025 fiscal year, a 3.4% year-on-year increase, marking the first growth since 2018. In March, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry adjusted its subsidy policy for the introduction and promotion of clean energy vehicles, raising the subsidy cap for pure electric vehicles by 400,000 yen to 1.3 million yen, stimulating electric vehicle consumption. Meanwhile, the global energy crisis triggered by the Middle East conflict has driven up oil prices, further boosting domestic interest in electric vehicles in Japan.
