Genesis has issued a recall for 483 units of its 2023–2026 G90 flagship sedan in North America, owing to problems with its "Savile Silver" paint. This particular paint variant boasts a high concentration of aluminum powder. The reflective nature of this paint disrupts the functionality of the corner radar mounted on the front fenders. The radar signals bounce off the silver bumper cover, penetrate the bumper beam, and then return to the receiver. This creates a misleading perception that there are objects in the adjacent lanes. Consequently, the vehicle may suddenly engage in automatic emergency braking even when there are no obstacles in sight, a phenomenon that is especially evident at speeds below 19 km/h or when the lane change assist feature is in use. Genesis has thus far received 11 reports of such incidents, but fortunately, no collisions or injuries have occurred. To tackle this issue, Genesis has halted orders for this specific paint. Additionally, authorized dealers will replace the front bumper beam assembly in the recalled vehicles with a newly designed part. Vehicle owners are also recommended to deactivate the highway driving assist function until the necessary repairs are carried out.
