At its recent event, Apple unveiled a new feature for iOS 27, dubbed iPhone Handoff. Leveraging carrier eSIM support, this feature enables two iPhones running iOS 27 or higher, and logged into the same Apple account, to share a single phone number. Currently, only two carriers support this feature: T-Mobile in the United States and Deutsche Telekom in Germany. Notably, T-Mobile will charge users a $5 monthly fee for utilizing this feature, though eligible plans will still allow both devices to share calling, texting, and other functionalities. When in use, the same number can only be active on one iPhone at a time, with the system automatically switching between primary and secondary devices upon unlocking. Additionally, the feature supports dual SIM dual standby, but both eSIMs must be from carriers that support it. Some cards stored in Apple Wallet can be used on both devices, but the Apple Watch will not automatically transfer. After setting up the feature, users will need to contact their carrier to disable it.
