On September 23, a research team hailing from the University of Electro-Communications in Japan unveiled a groundbreaking technology. This innovation involves encapsulating photovoltaic cell units within cylindrical glass tubes that are infused with perovskite material. The primary objective of this design is to mitigate the degradation caused by environmental elements like rain and wind, thereby significantly boosting the solar cells' durability.
When compared to their planar counterparts, the cylindrical design is anticipated to not only enhance the cells' resilience but also increase their power generation capabilities. Currently, the team is diligently working towards the practical application of this technology. In a strategic move, they plan to forge an industry-academia collaboration alliance in October. This alliance aims to expedite the development of mass production techniques, broaden the scope of applications, and conduct comprehensive performance evaluations, all with the ultimate goal of commercialization.
