On December 25, the official website of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government unveiled the "Eighteen Measures to Foster the Growth of the Gaming and Esports Industry in Guangzhou." This marks Guangzhou's inaugural dedicated policy initiative (special support) tailored specifically for the gaming and esports sector. The policy's overarching goal is to position Guangzhou as one of the preeminent global hubs for the gaming and esports industry by 2030. It advocates for the profound integration of cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, the metaverse, and ultra-high-definition video, into the gaming and esports landscape. Additionally, it encourages research and development (R&D) endeavors focused on overcoming technological bottlenecks within the gaming realm.

Furthermore, the policy incentivizes gaming and esports firms to proactively engage in national-level key laboratories, industrial innovation platforms, and significant projects. It also urges them to leverage high-caliber results from national key R&D program initiatives for implementation and transformation within Guangzhou. Following evaluation and endorsement by the city's gaming and esports industry regulatory body, high-quality projects that have made substantial technological advancements in gaming will be eligible for a one-time support grant of up to 3 million yuan.
