On July 12, local time, tech journalist Mark Gurman disclosed that Apple is revising its Mac chip development blueprint to better meet the demands of AI advancement. Following the introduction of the foundational M6 chip this autumn, Apple intends to, for the first time, bypass high-end variants such as the M6 Pro, M6 Max, and M6 Ultra, and instead, immediately direct its efforts towards the creation of the M7 series chips. The M7 is anticipated to make its debut in the first half of 2027, with the M7 Ultra slated for release in 2028. According to reports, the M7 Ultra will markedly boost AI performance, striving to rival the capabilities of specialized AI accelerators, such as Nvidia's Blackwell, and could potentially form the basis for Apple's next-generation AI server chips. Moreover, Apple has already commenced work on the M8 and future chips, which will boast even more formidable AI capabilities, with the 2028 offerings set to incorporate 1.4-nanometer process technology.
