In recent times, the prices of memory modules have skyrocketed, substantially driving up the expenses for consumers looking to upgrade their devices. Commencing from the latter half of 2025, memory module prices have witnessed a consistent upward trajectory. Specifically, DDR5 memory module prices have surged by a staggering 300%, while DDR4 prices have climbed by over 150%. These price escalations are primarily attributed to a sharp spike in demand for AI computing power. The production of high-bandwidth memory has overshadowed that of consumer-grade memory, resulting in a constrained market supply. Concurrently, panic buying has further exacerbated the price surge. The ripple effect of these memory price increases has extended downstream, compelling adjustments in the pricing of end products such as smartphones and computers. On April 21, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a response, announcing its intention to implement a series of measures to bolster the development of the memory industry. These measures encompass enhancing supply capabilities, fostering alignment between supply and demand, and collaborating with pertinent departments to clamp down on hoarding and price gouging, thereby upholding market order.
