Bromine, a crucial raw material for producing semiconductor-grade hydrogen bromide gas, is heavily relied upon by South Korean chip manufacturing giants like Samsung and SK Hynix. Notably, 97.5% of their bromine supply is imported from Israel. The global capacity of alternative bromine suppliers is constrained and insufficient to fully substitute Israel’s contributions. Israeli multinational ICL Group stands as a leading global bromine producer, leveraging Dead Sea resources to manufacture bromine at the world’s lowest production cost. Together, Israel and Jordan supply two-thirds of the world’s bromine. However, ICL’s bromine extraction and processing facilities are situated in Sodom, near the Dead Sea, just under 35 kilometers from the Negev Desert region that has been targeted in Iranian strikes, thereby exposing these sites to potential missile threats.
