The JEDEC consortium is currently in the process of developing a cutting-edge memory standard known as SPHBM4. This innovative standard boasts the capability to deliver bandwidth on par with HBM4, utilizing a 512-bit interface width. What sets SPHBM4 apart is its compatibility with conventional organic substrates, which translates to reduced production costs and enhanced storage capacities. Positioned between traditional DDR memory and the advanced HBM, SPHBM4 effectively bridges the gap in the HBM market landscape. However, it's important to note that this new standard is not intended to supplant GDDR memory, which remains the go-to choice for graphics cards.
