According to Tom, host of the "Moore’s Law Is Dead" channel, Samsung is progressively phasing out its SATA SSD operations. This information has been independently verified by numerous distribution and retail sources. Tom posits that Samsung's decision could have an even more pronounced impact on consumer hardware pricing than Micron's discontinuation of its Crucial consumer memory line. The reasoning is that Samsung is eliminating an entire product category outright, which will inevitably lead to a supply shortage. SATA SSDs continue to command a substantial portion of the retail market, particularly within the entry-level PC segment. Samsung's withdrawal is expected to reduce the overall SSD supply, thereby creating upward pressure on prices for both SATA and NVMe SSDs, especially in the short to medium term.
