Based on a report from The Information, Google is making substantial modifications to its AI chip strategy. For the first time, it is planning to offer custom TPU chips for sale, which can be installed in customers' own data centers. Prior to this, these chips were exclusively used internally within Google Cloud. Currently, Meta is engaged in discussions with Google, with the intention of investing billions of dollars starting in 2027 to procure Google's TPUs. Moreover, Meta plans to start renting TPU computing power from Google Cloud as soon as next year. This development poses a direct threat to Nvidia's current dominance in the market. If the deal materializes, it will serve as a significant endorsement of Google's hardware prowess and assist the company in vying for a market share equivalent to up to 10% of Nvidia's annual revenue.
