On November 24, the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) made a decision through voting to officially commence a Section 337 investigation concerning specific liquid crystal devices, their components, and downstream products (Investigation No.: 337-TA-1462). This move came in response to a joint petition filed on August 29 by U.S.-based BH Innovations LLC, Ireland's Longitude Licensing Limited, and Ireland's 138 East LCD Advancements Ltd. These entities claimed that the products in question breach Section 337 of the U.S. Tariff Act by infringing upon U.S.-registered patents numbered 7,705,948 and 7,570,334. Consequently, they sought the issuance of limited exclusion orders and cease-and-desist orders. The named respondents encompass a range of Chinese firms, including Guangdong HKC Corporation Limited, Chongqing HKC Golden Yu Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., Shandong Hisense Group Co., Ltd., Qingdao Hisense International Marketing Co., Ltd., Hisense Visual Technology Co., Ltd., as well as South Korean giant LG Electronics and U.S.-based VIZIO. The United States International Trade Commission is tasked with determining the investigation's conclusion date within 45 days of the case's filing. The remedial orders will become effective upon issuance and will attain their final impact on the 60th day following their issuance.
