On the morning of November 5, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council convened a routine press conference. When questioned by a reporter about U.S. President Trump's announcement that TSMC will relocate its chip production to the United States, along with his assertion that the U.S. will command 50% of the global chip market within the next two years—a prospect that has sparked unease among netizens in Taiwan, China, who feel they are "gifting their chips away only to be betrayed" and fear that "Taiwan, China, is left with no bargaining chips"—Mainland Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Hanzhui stated that the semiconductor industry in Taiwan, China, is a precious asset for all Taiwanese compatriots. He criticized the DPP authorities for their relentless pursuit of "independence by relying on the U.S.", noting that they have willingly sold off Taiwan's core competitive industries, disregarding both industrial and livelihood needs, and have allowed the U.S. side to exploit these industries at will. Such actions, he warned, will undermine the industry's foundation, dampen public morale, and ultimately lead to their own downfall.
