In July 2025, AMD's Instinct MI308 AI chip successfully cleared the export license review conducted by the U.S. Department of Commerce. As a result, the company will be able to resume exporting this product to China. The MI308 chip has been specifically tailored for the Chinese market. It represents a downgraded iteration of the MI300 series, with performance that is potentially on par with NVIDIA's H20.

This chip comes packed with 192GB of HBM3 memory, offering robust support for FP8 precision inference. Moreover, it boasts an impressive computing power of 2.6 PFLOPS. Despite having received the green light for export, AMD has opted not to factor in the revenue from the MI308 chip into its third-quarter financial forecast. This decision stems from the fact that the license review process is still ongoing, and a significant portion of the chip's inventory is still in the work-in-progress stage.
