At the Photonics Industry Summit, held as part of the 2025 Hard Technology Innovation Conference, Yang Junhong, the General Manager of the Shaanxi Optoelectronics Pilot Institute, provided an update on the staged progress of Shaanxi's ambitious 'Chasing Light Plan'. Notably, the '8-inch Advanced Silicon Photonics Integrated Technology Innovation Platform' has now been officially launched, accompanied by the release of the Process Design Kit (PDK) for passive SOI integrated ultra-low-loss silicon nitride products.

Since its inception in 2021, the 'Chasing Light Plan' has propelled Shaanxi's photonics industry into a new era of rapid growth. The 'Chasing Light Plan - Transition Initiative' has laid out a clear development path, with the Optoelectronics Pilot Institute serving as the pivotal 'innovation hub'. The establishment of the 8-inch silicon photonics platform has bridged the gap in Shaanxi's silicon photonics chip pilot production capabilities, offering comprehensive support for the 'Chasing Light Plan' and drawing a multitude of enterprises to the region.

Moreover, the platform has tackled the global issue of concentrated silicon photonics pilot resources by creating an independent and controllable advanced process system. Presently, the Optoelectronics Pilot Institute boasts a dual-pilot-platform framework, fostering collaborative industrial development through the '1+N' model and achieving early successes.

Moving forward, efforts will be concentrated on accelerating the construction of heterogeneous integration platforms, aiming to position Shaanxi as a leading photonics industry hub.
