The European Union has given the green light to the formation of a joint venture among BAE Systems from the United Kingdom, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Leonardo of Italy. This partnership will assume the role of lead contractor and system integrator for the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP), tasked with the research and development of a sixth-generation fighter jet, aiming for delivery by the end of 2035. Each of the three entities will own a 33.3% stake, and the new venture's headquarters will be situated in the UK, with an Italian appointed as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer. The GCAP program seeks to harness the technological prowess of the UK, Italy, and Japan to create cutting-edge fighter jets, equipped with stealth capabilities and adaptable for both manned and unmanned operations.
