On July 11, reports surfaced indicating that Tencent is in discussions to become the principal shareholder of Manus, a company specializing in general AI agents. A Chinese capital consortium, spearheaded by Tencent, intends to buy back all of Manus' shares from Meta, valuing the company at around $2 billion. As of the time of reporting, Tencent has not issued an official response. However, another insider disclosed that, upon completion of the transaction, Tencent will retain a minority stake and will not seek controlling interest in Manus. Previously, Meta's attempt to acquire Manus was thwarted by Chinese regulatory bodies due to concerns over cross-border technology transfer, leading to a mandate to rescind (Here, "rescind" is used to replace "Revoke" for a more natural fit in this context) the deal.
