On April 21, 2026, Amazon announced an additional $5 billion investment in AI company Anthropic, bringing the total investment to potentially $20 billion. It had already invested $8 billion previously. In exchange, Anthropic has committed to spending over $100 billion on Amazon's cloud technology and chips over the next decade, as well as deploying Amazon's self-developed Trainium AI chips on a large scale.
