On April 17, the video conferencing software Zoom announced a collaboration with World (previously known as Worldcoin), a company helmed by Sam Altman, to unveil a real-time facial verification feature during video conferences. This innovative feature employs a three-pronged matching verification process. It cross-references the user's pre-registered signature image, conducts a real-time facial scan via the user's device, and compares it with the live conference video feed. Upon successful verification, users will be awarded a 'Verified Human' badge. Conversely, those who fail to pass the verification will be barred from entering the virtual conference room. The host retains the flexibility to set verification thresholds in advance or perform random checks at their discretion. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that this feature necessitates the use of World's Orb hardware and may entail potential risks associated with cross-border data transmission.
