To curb the misuse of AI technology, foster a clean and vibrant online ecosystem, and drive the healthy evolution of artificial intelligence, the Beijing Cyberspace Administration has launched a month-long special initiative named ‘Clear and Bright Beijing · AI for Good.’ This campaign zeroes in on five critical concerns:
First, it aims to clamp down on the creation and dissemination of pornographic and indecent content using AI. This includes the spread of sexually explicit, violent, and gory materials, as well as information that could be detrimental to the mental and physical well-being of minors.
Second, the campaign tackles the issue of AI-generated fake and infringing content that impersonates individuals. This encompasses the unauthorized use of AI-driven face-swapping and voice synthesis techniques for commercial marketing purposes, mimicking public figures.
Third, it focuses on investigating and penalizing the generation of false rumors through AI, especially the splicing, alteration, and malicious fabrication of false information pertaining to politics and public welfare.
Fourth, the initiative takes a firm stance against the sale and instruction of ‘AI identification removal’ tactics. This includes the distribution of related tools, software, and tutorials via e-commerce platforms and other avenues.
Fifth, it urges platforms to bolster their capabilities in identifying, reviewing, and managing AI-generated and synthesized content. It calls on website platforms to shoulder their primary responsibilities and enhance their technological surveillance and swift response mechanisms.
