A recent report from technology news outlet The Verge has unveiled that Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has expressed reservations about the invasive surgical methods employed by Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface firm, Neuralink. Altman’s forthcoming brain-computer interface startup is rumored to explore the use of sound waves as a means to interpret brain activity. To realize this vision, Altman has enlisted the expertise of biomolecular engineer Mikhail Shapiro to join Merge Labs, the brain-computer interface company he is co-founding alongside Alex Blania. Shapiro is renowned for his work in non-invasive neural imaging and control technologies, with a particular emphasis on utilizing ultrasound for brain interaction, thereby eliminating the need for invasive cranial surgery.
