The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is stepping up its oversight of Tesla's Robotaxi program, having dispatched a detailed questionnaire to the company as part of a broader investigation into Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. The NHTSA's objective is to assess the FSD system's performance in adverse weather conditions and to inquire about Tesla's strategies for safely testing Robotaxi vehicles on public roads. This inquiry was initiated in October 2024, prompted by four incidents involving the FSD system in low-visibility environments. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has assured that the forthcoming iteration of the Robotaxi will be capable of fully autonomous operation without human supervision.
