The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has formulated a new national standard, "Safety Requirements for Traction Batteries Used in Electric Vehicles," which will be implemented from July 1, 2026. This standard features comprehensive upgrades to testing items and technical requirements, significantly advancing the safety benchmarks for electric vehicle batteries. Key enhancements include the introduction of safety tests after fast charging cycles and underbody impact tests, as well as upgraded thermal diffusion tests. The new standard mandates that batteries must not catch fire, explode, or emit harmful smoke in the event of thermal runaway, aiming to further bolster the safety of electric vehicle batteries and propel the industry towards high-quality development.
