On Tuesday, BMW Group revealed that it has channeled US$1.7 billion into its manufacturing facility located in South Carolina, USA, marking a significant stride towards the localized manufacturing of all-electric vehicles. The enlargement of the primary plant in Spartanburg, coupled with the establishment of a brand-new plant in Woodruff, has now been finalized, creating a streamlined and effective production system. The BMW iX5 SUV is slated to be the inaugural all-electric model to roll off the assembly line in the U.S., with production slated to kick off at the Spartanburg plant by the close of 2026. Looking ahead, BMW envisions assembling a minimum of six all-electric models in the U.S. by 2030, with the Woodruff plant set to supply the high-voltage batteries essential for these vehicles.
