Geely has entered into an agreement with Ford to acquire the Body 3 assembly line at Ford’s Almussafes factory in Valencia, Spain. This move is aimed at producing a new energy vehicle model, internally designated as 135, which is built on Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA). According to reports, the model will feature three powertrain options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric. Foreign media speculate that this vehicle could be the EX2. Additionally, there are indications that Ford might introduce collaborative models based on Geely’s GEA platform. If this cooperation progresses smoothly, the factory is expected to ramp up production to pre-pandemic levels, thereby securing local employment.

At that time, Geely was engaged in discussions with Ford concerning automotive manufacturing and technology cooperation. The plan was to leverage Ford’s European facilities to manufacture vehicles for the European market, thereby avoiding tariffs. Ford has stated that the outcome of these discussions remains uncertain, and Geely’s European spokesperson has declined to comment on the ongoing speculation. However, according to media sources citing industry insiders, the agreement is largely finalized.

Previously, several Chinese automakers have made strides in establishing or collaborating on factories in Europe. For instance, FAW Hongqi is in negotiations with Stellantis to utilize its Spanish plant for vehicle production, reflecting a broader trend of Chinese automotive expansion in the European market.
