Tesla Cybertruck owners are grappling with significant hardware malfunctions, as numerous failures in the power conversion system (PCS) have rendered the vehicle's AC charging capabilities useless. This issue leaves owners vulnerable to potentially high repair costs once their warranty expires. The PCS failures seem to stem from factors such as MOSFET damage and frequently occur even when the vehicle has low mileage.

The repair procedure for these failures is intricate, necessitating the disassembly of multiple vehicle components. During the basic warranty period, Tesla covers the replacement costs. However, owners whose warranties have lapsed have historically faced exorbitant repair fees. Although these fees have recently decreased to approximately $1,000, owners are still required to shoulder the expenses themselves. Moreover, a shortage of parts at service centers has resulted in delays in vehicle pick-up times.

The first batch of owners of the 2024 and 2025 Founders Series models are not eligible for the 7-year or 112,000-kilometer warranty that is offered in subsequent model years. Furthermore, there is currently no extended service agreement subscription service available for these owners. Tesla has yet to issue an official recall announcement, leaving owners to hope that the fault will manifest within their warranty period or to wait in anticipation of a large-scale recall.
