The Xiaomi 18 Fold is Xiaomi's first mid-folding smartphone, featuring the world's first mass-produced dual-layer UTG solution. This solution adopts a design approach of 'thickening the top layer and strengthening the bottom layer.' The 50μm UTG in the top layer enhances the inner screen's impact resistance by 178% compared to the previous generation of foldable devices, while the 30μm UTG in the bottom layer replaces the PET support layer, further improving impact resistance by an additional 29%. Since 2020, Xiaomi has been exploring this solution, and after six years, it has collaborated with domestic suppliers to overcome three major challenges in materials, structure, and process, ultimately achieving mass production.
