On February 9 (local time), Sony made an official announcement that it will progressively stop the shipment of all its Blu-ray recorders. Moreover, there are no intentions to introduce subsequent models, signifying a complete withdrawal from the home Blu-ray recorder hardware market. The production halt encompasses even the latest models that have recently been introduced. As the trailblazer and originator of the Blu-ray Disc standard, Sony once played a pivotal role in establishing Blu-ray Discs as the mainstream medium. However, the advent and subsequent rise of online streaming video have led to a gradual decline in the physical disc market. Panasonic had earlier ceased the production of Blu-ray discs designated for recording purposes, and now Sony is following suit by discontinuing the production of recordable discs as well. This development signifies the gradual fading away of the video recording culture, with physical media evolving towards becoming collectibles. Gamers might consider acquiring backup devices or transitioning to game consoles as their preferred playback equipment.
