On December 22, the Italian Competition and Market Authority (AGCM) made public its decision to levy a hefty fine of €98.635 million (roughly equivalent to $115.53 million) on Apple Inc., along with two of its subsidiaries. The penalty stems from allegations that these entities abused their dominant market position in the realm of iOS mobile application distribution. According to the regulatory body, Apple’s “App Tracking Transparency” policy exhibits characteristics that are detrimental to fair competition and has, as a result, compromised the interests of its business partners.
