On December 22, the Italian Competition and Market Authority (AGCM) disclosed that it had imposed a hefty fine of €98.635 million on Apple Inc., along with its subsidiaries Apple Distribution International and Apple Italia S.r.l. The penalty stems from allegations that these entities have been exploiting their dominant market position. The investigation revealed that Apple's "App Tracking Transparency" (ATT) policy, which has been in effect since April 2021, enforces privacy regulations on iOS devices that unfairly disadvantage third-party app developers who distribute their apps through the App Store, thereby stifling competition.
