In recent times, the memory module market has seen an influx of counterfeit goods, necessitating increased vigilance among consumers. Recently, a Reddit user with the handle u/Leading-Growth-8361 recounted his ordeal: they bought a set of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory modules directly from Amazon's own store. Upon receiving and installing the modules, they observed that the heat sink was loosely attached. When they opened it up for a closer look, they discovered that the notch position on the memory module's gold finger did not align with that of a genuine DDR5 module. Instead, it was an obsolete DDR4 module that was incompatible with their motherboard. Previously, other consumers have fallen prey to similar scams, including receiving DDR5 memory modules that were, in reality, old DDR2 modules concealed with cardboard, or encountering counterfeit products with labels that bore incorrect model information. To steer clear of such scams, consumers are advised to make purchases from officially authorized retailers, meticulously inspect the packaging, labels, and the quality of the heat sinks, and use official tools to verify the serial numbers.
