In Tianjin, the inaugural scheduled route for transporting blood products via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) achieved a remarkable milestone, successfully completing its maiden voyage. This pioneering flight spanned a distance of 14.6 kilometers in a mere 18 minutes, showcasing the efficiency and potential of UAV technology in critical medical logistics. Meanwhile, in the mountainous terrains of the Guizhou Plateau, a 2-ton electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft undertook its maiden cross-city logistics flight at low altitudes, covering an impressive 120 kilometers in just 39 minutes. This trial not only demonstrated the eVTOL's prowess in navigating challenging landscapes but also underscored the viability of low-altitude flights for logistical operations.
Parallel to these technological strides, a series of supportive policies have been rolling out at the policy-making front. The Central Air Traffic Management Bureau has issued two pivotal documents focused on low-altitude flight regulations, steering the low-altitude management system towards a phase of high-quality development marked by "standardization, orderliness, safety, and controllability." These guidelines lay a solid foundation for the safe and efficient integration of low-altitude activities into the national airspace system.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport has spotlighted 23 exemplary cases of low-altitude transportation applications, serving as a catalyst for the industry's evolution from conceptual exploration to tangible, scenario-based implementations. These case studies not only highlight the diverse range of potential applications but also provide valuable insights and best practices for stakeholders across the sector.
Industry experts are of the opinion that, fueled by the dual engines of policy support and innovative scenarios, the low-altitude economy is poised to enter a pivotal phase transitioning from theoretical exploration to full-fledged commercialization. This convergence of favorable policies and practical applications is expected to unlock unprecedented growth opportunities, driving the low-altitude economy to new heights.
