On September 28, reports emerged that seven key government departments—including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology—jointly unveiled the ‘15th Five-Year Plan’ for the Development of the New Battery Industry. The plan underscores the importance of advancing research and development in both pioneering and widely applicable technologies, deepening foundational and forward-looking studies on new battery systems, and fostering breakthroughs in original innovation and disruptive technologies.

Simultaneously, it highlights the necessity of bolstering multi-dimensional, process-oriented collaborative innovation across battery materials, structural design, manufacturing techniques, and system integration. This approach aims to enhance battery safety, energy and power density, structural robustness, and lightweight design. The plan also identifies critical areas of focus, such as improving ionic conductivity, boosting cycle stability, and cutting costs, to expedite progress in the industrialization of all-solid-state battery technologies. Furthermore, it stresses the proactive exploration of next-generation battery systems, including novel alkali metal ion batteries, multivalent ion batteries, metal-air/sulfur batteries, multifunctional composite structural batteries, and nuclear batteries.
