On September 27th, reports surfaced indicating that at the offline business outlets of the three primary telecom giants, customers frequently come across promotions such as 'acquire a complimentary phone' or 'get gifts alongside broadband.' These offers, while appearing enticing, actually necessitate consumers to enter into loan agreements, with their monthly phone bills encompassing the repayment sums. For an extended period, these installment schemes have been a focal point of consumer grievances. Lately, it has been disclosed that the three major operators have put a stop to such services. When journalists contacted the customer support of China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile regarding their 'Hebao Credit Purchase' service, all three confirmed the cessation of the installment-based phone purchase program. Telecom industry analyst Fu Liang remarked that this action by the three major operators is geared towards standardizing business operations. A more profound rationale is that the telecommunications market has transitioned into an era characterized by inventory (pre-existing user base), rendering it challenging to uphold strategies that hinge on subsidizing phone hardware to vie for customers.
