The academic paper entitled "Hfedms: Heterogeneous Federated Learning with Memorable Data Semantics in Industrial Metaverse" by the Smart Network and Applications Team at the School of Information and Communication Engineering, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, has been honored with the prestigious Best Paper Award for 2023 from IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing. Authored by undergraduate student Zeng Shenglai in 2019 under the guidance of the team, the paper presents experimental results from 368 nodes, demonstrating that the HFedMS system enhances classification accuracy by at least 6.4% compared to eight benchmarks, while reducing overall running time and the number of transmitted bytes by up to 98%. The team has a rich history of research in intelligent communication networks and distributed AI systems, having contributed numerous high-impact academic papers and applied their findings in collaborations with companies such as China Telecom, China Unicom, and Huawei.
