On July 20, Xie Cun, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, announced at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office that by the end of June, China’s intelligent computing power capacity had surged to 2,185 EFLOPS, reflecting a remarkable 177% increase compared to the previous year. The information and communications sector has achieved a “steady and comprehensive improvement” across four key dimensions:
Infrastructure Support: The nation now boasts 5.102 million 5G base stations and 32.86 million 10GPON ports. The 5G-Advanced (5G-A) commercial network spans over 330 cities, while 10-gigabit optical networks have been rolled out across diverse scenarios as part of pilot projects.
Integrated Application Efficiency: More than 80,000 industry-specific 5G virtual private networks have been deployed, with 5G and gigabit optical networks penetrating 94 major sectors of the national economy. Over 26,000 “5G+Industrial Internet” projects are currently underway, and 1,260 5G-enabled factories have been established.
Industrial Innovation: The range of 5G-powered intelligent terminals continues to expand. Authorities have approved the use of 6G test frequencies in the 6GHz band, propelling the second phase of 6G technology trials forward.
Open Development: Pilot programs to broaden the opening-up of value-added telecommunications services have been initiated, resulting in a total of 3,219 foreign-invested telecommunications enterprises—a 23.9% increase year-on-year.
