On December 3, China unveiled its inaugural national major scientific and technological infrastructure dedicated to the information and communications technology (ICT) sector—the Future Network Test Facility. This state-of-the-art facility successfully passed national acceptance checks and officially commenced operations in Nanjing. Spanning 40 cities nationwide, the infrastructure boasts an impressive total optical transmission length exceeding 55,000 kilometers, enabling high-throughput, highly reliable, and deterministic data transmission capabilities.
One of the standout features of this facility is its deterministic network, which is adept at providing tailored services. This capability significantly elevates both the efficiency and quality of data transmission. The project team has achieved remarkable milestones, overcoming numerous key core technological challenges. They have not only led but also actively participated in the formulation of multiple industry standards, securing a plethora of patents and software copyrights in the process.
Serving as an open test platform, the Future Network Test Facility has already begun offering invaluable technical support for the advancement of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and 6G technologies. Moreover, it is poised to play a pivotal role in the construction of China's computing power network. This infrastructure will empower large-scale model training endeavors, facilitate cost reductions, and efficiently aggregate computing resources. Looking ahead, the facility is expected to be instrumental in groundbreaking projects such as the "East Data, West Computing" initiative, as well as in various other sectors. It is set to inject fresh momentum into the ongoing construction of a digital China and propel the nation towards becoming a cyber powerhouse.
