In a strategic move to diminish its dependence on Nvidia hardware for managing demanding AI tasks, Apple is fervently exploring opportunities to acquire AI chip firms. At present, Apple utilizes its in-house chips to handle certain AI operations within its private data centers. However, for larger and more intricate workloads, it still turns to Nvidia hardware stationed in Google Cloud. A case in point is that some functionalities of the latest iteration of Siri are contingent upon Nvidia chips housed in Google Cloud.
Determined to alter this status quo, Apple is engaging in discussions with bankers regarding potential acquisitions and is actively reaching out to semiconductor startups to assess their willingness to be acquired. Notably, Apple has previously made a significant move by acquiring Q.Ai for a staggering $2 billion, marking its second-largest acquisition in its storied history.
