SpaceX is considering tackling the hurdles in the chip sector by venturing into GPU production—a vital element for propelling artificial intelligence forward. Ahead of its much-anticipated initial public offering (IPO), which aims for a valuation of up to $1.75 trillion and is slated for this summer, SpaceX has informed potential investors of its significant investment plans in technologies like artificial intelligence. Notably, the company has earmarked "manufacturing our own GPUs" as a major project requiring substantial capital expenditure. Previously, SpaceX and its xAI division revealed a partnership with Tesla to co-establish Terafab, a cutting-edge AI chip manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas. However, many specifics of this collaboration are still under wraps. At present, SpaceX has not provided a clear timeline for when it will commence chip production, nor has it identified who will oversee the manufacturing technology at the factory. Musk mentioned that once Terafab reaches a larger scale, Intel's upcoming 14A manufacturing process "might reach maturity or become accessible for utilization," presenting itself as a "fitting option."
