Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi Group, revisited a tradition that the company has upheld since 2020. At the start of each year, Xiaomi presents a 'Multi-Million Technology Award' to its engineers. This prestigious accolade has now been conferred six times, with a cumulative prize pool of 75 million yuan distributed thus far. The competition for the 2026 edition of this award was particularly intense, with 154 projects competing for the top honor. Ultimately, the team behind Xiaomi's in-house developed Xuanjie O1 chip emerged victorious, claiming the grand prize. Notably, this chip has already been integrated into multiple terminal products.
Lei Jun disclosed that over the past five years, Xiaomi's actual expenditure on research and development (R&D) has amounted to approximately 105 billion yuan. Looking ahead, the company has ambitious plans to invest an additional 200 billion yuan in R&D for core technologies over the next five years. During the award ceremony, Lei Jun re-emphasized the three core principles that guide Xiaomi's technological endeavors: 'technology as the cornerstone,' 'fostering an engineer's mindset,' and 'creating a development platform tailored for engineers.' He underscored the imperative of solidifying Xiaomi's technological foundation as the company accelerates its efforts to construct a robust technological moat.
