Samsung Electronics has made a bold move by substantially increasing its employee patent incentive standards, with the highest possible reward now reaching up to three times the previous benchmark. Specifically, the 'Invention Incentive Bonus' has seen a significant boost, doubling its original value. A1 - level rewards have soared from 1 million won to 1.5 million won, while A2 - level rewards have jumped from 500,000 won to 1 million won. This revised incentive scheme will remain in force until September 2027.

Apart from one - off rewards, employees are also eligible for ongoing compensation. The scale of this adjustment is truly unprecedented, clearly reflecting Samsung's unwavering resolve to ramp up innovation incentives.

This strategic move is driven by Samsung's pressing need to restore its technological edge. The company is currently grappling with challenges in areas like High - Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and wafer foundry services. Moreover, Qualcomm holds a dominant position in Samsung's application processor market.

Despite these hurdles, Samsung Electronics has witnessed a steady increase in the number of patent registrations. In the first half of 2024 alone, it has already registered 9,599 patents in South Korea and the United States. The global semiconductor sector continues to see a surge in patent applications, with China contributing over half of the total submissions.

Industry experts have noted that Samsung still has a considerable gap to bridge when compared to China and the United States in the domains of system semiconductors and memory technologies.
