According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, took the initiative to lobby then-President Trump. His aim was to obtain approval for Nvidia to sell its Blackwell chips to China, as this was crucial for maintaining the company's business operations in the Chinese market. This request took on a sense of urgency on the eve of the U.S.-China summit.
However, Trump ultimately chose not to bring up the issue of exporting Nvidia's advanced chips during the summit. This decision came as a result of strong opposition from a majority of senior U.S. officials. Among those who voiced their disapproval were Senator Rubio and advisors from the state government, and their stance ultimately carried the day.
At present, Nvidia is still in the process of seeking approval to introduce a lower-performance variant of the chip to the Chinese market. Previously, Huang had openly stated that the company found itself in a difficult predicament and expressed the hope that Trump could step in and help find a viable solution.
