On October 11, the Information Office of the State Council convened a press conference centered on the theme of "Achieving High-Quality Completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan," shedding light on the advancements in high-quality meteorological services during this period. During the conference, it was emphasized that numerical weather prediction serves as the cornerstone, akin to a 'chip', in the realm of meteorological forecasting. Presently, China has successfully developed and implemented a fully independent and controllable operational system for both global and regional numerical weather predictions.
Jin Ronghua, the Director of the National Meteorological Center, revealed that an intelligent digital meteorological forecasting system, characterized by its 'seamless integration and comprehensive coverage', has been preliminarily established. Notably, the spatial resolution of the intelligent grid weather forecasting system has been enhanced to a nationwide level of 1 kilometer. Furthermore, the minimum error in 24-hour typhoon path forecasting has been significantly reduced to 62 kilometers, a feat that places China at the forefront internationally, maintaining a level of accuracy that is on par with global standards.
