Meta has recently made a significant hire by poaching two senior AI engineers from Apple - Mark Lee and Tom Gunter, who have now joined Meta's Super Intelligence Lab team. Tom Gunter, with nearly a decade of service at Apple, was a seasoned expert in the company's large language model research domain. Mark Lee, on the other hand, was a founding member of Apple's foundational model team, and both individuals had close professional relationships with their team manager, Pang Ruoming. Notably, Meta had previously lured Pang Ruoming away with a lucrative salary offer. Despite Apple's attempt to retain its talent by granting raises to approximately 100 engineers, these increases were unable to match the competitive compensation package offered by Meta.
