Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced ambitious plans to construct multiple gigawatt-scale data centers in order to bolster the company's artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. The first of these centers, named Prometheus, is anticipated to commence operations in 2026. Zuckerberg shared on the social platform Threads that the collective data centers Meta is developing will possess a "gigawatt" scale, aiming to secure industry-leading computational power and vastly surpass the per capita computing resources available to researchers at other institutions. This announcement also serves as a call to "recruit talent," expressing the hope of collaborating with top-tier researchers to jointly propel groundbreaking advancements.
